GIBEH Uganda and RC of Sonde Conduct Awareness Campaign at Kyesereka Primary School

In a significant step towards improving education and health, GIBEH Uganda, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Sonde, recently conducted a comprehensive awareness campaign at Kyesereka Primary School in the Lugazi Diocese. When Girl Initiative for Better Education and Health, aims to address critical issues affecting the learners, focusing on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and menstrual health and hygiene management.

The campaign began with an informative session on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, where learners were educated on the identification, resolution, and referral pathways for such incidents. This session aimed to equip the students with the knowledge to recognize SGBV and the steps to take when faced with such situations. The emphasis on resolution and referral pathways provided a clear roadmap for the students, empowering them to seek help and support effectively.

Following the SGBV session, the campaign shifted focus to Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management. This crucial component aimed to help students understand their reproductive system, break the stigma surrounding menstruation, and address the challenges faced during this critical stage of their lives. The session provided valuable information on managing menstrual health, promoting a supportive and stigma-free environment for the learners.

A highlight of the campaign was the generous donation of sanitary wear by the Rotary Club of Sonde. This contribution will significantly aid the students in managing their menstrual health with dignity and comfort. The Rotary Club’s support underscores the importance of community involvement in addressing educational and health challenges faced by young learners.

GIBEH Uganda expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Sonde for their invitation and generous donation. Their collaboration exemplifies the impact of community partnerships in fostering a healthier, safer, and more supportive environment for learners.

This campaign at Kyesereka Primary School marks a positive step towards enhancing the educational and health outcomes for students in Mukono District. By addressing issues like SGBV and menstrual health, GIBEH Uganda and the Rotary Club of Sonde are contributing to a brighter, more informed future for the youth in this community.
